Dixon Point Lighthouse (Front Range)

This is one of the many fine lighthouses that dot the coastline and inland waterways of New Brunswick. The Dixon Point Lighthouse was built originally in 1881. It was replaced in 1919 with an attractive salt-shaker-style design. The front range is still active. This lighthouse stands on a very small footprint of land with a good view of the Bouctouche Dune Lighthouse, which is practically inaccessible, at the end of the Bouctouche Dune sandbar. Both are excellent examples of the fine craftsmanship of the era.

Nepisiguit Centennial Museum/Cultural Centre

In 2003 the Bathurst Heritage Trust Commission Inc. acquired the Nepisiguit Centennial Library building and immediately created the Nepisiguit Centennial Museum/Cultural Centre, which houses the Heritage Museum, the Nepisiguit Genealogy/Archives. The artifacts, including photos, archives, genealogical documents, and histories of the native Aboriginal culture, represent the general life of the people of the region in the early days. There is no precise theme running through the museum, but the past comes alive for both local and other visitors.

Because of the island's isolation and the unusually harsh winter, nearly half of the colonists succumbed to scurvy. The following year, de Mons relocated his colony across the Bay of Fundy to Port Royal in Nova Scotia.
