There are a number of unspoiled beaches on this island in the Bay of Fundy, where you can lie in the sun, explore the rocks and tidal pools, or watch the seabirds and other wildlife. It's easy to see why this island is a popular summer destination with travellers the world over! Dunn Beach is smooth and sandy. Friar's Bay has a lovely view across the water to Eastport, Maine. It's the perfect place for a leisurely stroll, or to just sit and enjoy the breathtaking view. Raccoon Beach, accessible by trail, is located within Roosevelt International Park. Stairs take you down the cliff-side to the beach for an afternoon of exploring. Bring your binoculars, as this is a great spot for birdwatching. You can also pack a lunch and enjoy the picnic area. Beautiful Herring Cove Beach, which is more than 1 km (0.6 mi.) in length, is located within Herring Cove Provincial Park. It's a mixture of sand and pebble, and also has a picnic area where you can enjoy your lunch. On a clear day you can see Grand Manan Island on the horizon. Mill Cove Beach is a favourite spot for kayak enthusiasts, where you can slip your kayak into the Bay of Fundy. This beach is actually a sheltered cove with a pebbled beach and sandy bar. Eagles and shorebirds are a common sight.
