Côté's Bed & Breakfast/Inn

The Experience of Place It is early morning, and as you approach the bridge over the Saint John River at Grand Falls, a white mist descends over the car. Rolling down the window, you can feel the moisture on your face. You can hear the roar of the falls. Your heart quickens. It seems even your car is getting excited. Norma Côté not only loves Grand Falls, she loves the landscape that surrounds the small farming community in northwestern New Brunswick that she calls home. She also loves sharing her four-and-a-half star bed and breakfast with guests from around the world. “It's been more than 20 years since we opened,” she says, “and I've enjoyed every minute of it. I've learned the importance of providing guests with the experience of home, which is our house specialty. But we just don't make them feel at home inside these walls, we make them feel at home on the landscape too.” During the spring freshet a volume of water equal to almost 90 per cent of the flow over Niagara Falls swirls and tumbles over Grand Falls. While the falls is the main attraction, Norma explains that there are many other things to see and experience nearby. “Travellers today are looking for the ‘experience of place' and that's what we strive to give them.” Not far from her front door you can experience the new Zip Line across the Gorge. You can rappel face-forward into the gorge, or ride a pontoon boat through it. Mount Carleton Provincial Park and the Maritimes' highest peak is just an hour-and-a-half away. From the first greeting you receive from Norma, her two beautiful Goldendoodle dogs and Sophie, Kate and Annie the cats, you know you're in a special place. And then there are the fabulous breakfasts too. Yum! Now there's an experience!
