Located 40 km (25 mi.) from Edmundston and Grand Falls/Grand-Sault, the Experimental Forest is not only a natural laboratory for the forestry students of l'Université de Moncton (Edmundston Campus), but also a beautiful forest environment to explore and enjoy. It's a wonderful place to marvel at nature's beauty, season after season. The 8.3 sq. km (3.2 sq. mi.) forest has over 16 km (10 mi.) of trails designed for walks, introduction to natural sciences, wildlife viewing and active sports such as hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and mountain biking. Visitors are welcome at all times. Bring a picnic and enjoy the amenities – covered picnic tables, a playground for the little ones, a shelter and a lookout tower. Take a breath of fresh air and follow wooded trails into the depths of an 830-hectare (2,050-acre) forest teaming with various tree and plant species. The Experimental Forest, location for the province's first public tree plantation, is a life-size university lab. Book a guided tour with an experienced forester who will help you identify trees, plants and animals, and learn how we protect and nurture the forests to ensure future sustainability. Enjoy a snack and stories at the ‘tall white pine gathering place' and bring a souvenir back from the forest. You'll leave the quiet trails with a rich store of information about the flora and wildlife that make up this ecosystem, as well as a renewed respect for nature. The Acadia of the lands and forest beckons you!
