Come to Hillsborough and visit the New Brunswick Railway Museum, featuring the largest display of unique railway equipment in the province. This includes former Canadian National Railways #1009 and former Canadian National Railways diesel locomotives, as well as a replica of the ‘1881 Hillsboro’ railway station complete with a typical railway section house.Step back in time as you walk through our historical passenger coaches; photograph your children playing railway conductor in a caboose cupola; see a rare double-ended railway snow plough, a heritage motor car and other unusual rail equipment. The museum’s main historical exhibit building is full of railway artefacts and photographs providing visitors with a glimpse into the history of New Brunswick railways. Learn about the history of Hillsborough gypsum mining, New Brunswick’s largest gypsum processing plant, which was once adjacent to the Hillsborough railway yard. You’ll be intrigued to hear about their narrow-gauge railway operation, as well as the county’s unique mineral ‘Albertite,’ once hauled to the Petitcodiac River wharf by a horse-drawn railway!
