Southwest Head Lighthouse

Whales, porpoises, seabirds, spectacular sunsets, hiking trails – these and more can be seen daily from towering rock cliffs guarded by Grand Manan's Southwest Head Lighthouse. Originally built in 1880, this active lighthouse was replaced with a concrete structure in 1989. You can access dramatic hiking trails from this area, but please be careful. The cliff area is dangerous and requires caution. This is a definite ''must-see'' on Grand Manan Island! Driving directions: Route 1, Exit 60, onto Route 176 to Blacks Harbour, from the ferry, follow Route 776 for 25 km (16 mi.) to the end of the island.
