The small, quiet village of Drummond, bordered by the Saint John River, Salmon River and Little River, is home to a proud francophone community living in a beautiful rural setting where potato farming is the main industry. The village is a short distance from the phenomenal Grand Falls Gorge, carved by the Saint John River and boasting walls up to 70 m (230 ft. high). Enjoy a leisurely canoe ride on the Salmon River and marvel at the scenery, rich with the colours of this agricultural land. The impressive trestle of the Canadian National railway connecting Drummond with the community of New Denmark is a must-see; it spans 65 m (212 ft) above the river! During the winter months, many enjoy cross-country skiing on the wooded trails, as well as snowmobiling across the expansive white, snowy fields. Drummond is also home to jockey Ron Turcotte, famous for winning the Triple Crown of the turf in 1973 with its celebrated horse, Secretariat. Turcotte is, to this day, the only French-Canadian jockey to have accomplished such a feat.
