Nigadoo (Belle-Baie)

Nigadoo is a picturesque village located between Beresford and Petit-Rocher, just 9 km (5.6 mi.) from Bathurst. Long before the Acadians arrived in the region, the Mi'gmaq had discovered the natural shelter offered by the banks of the river and had named the place Nigadoo, meaning hiding place or refuge, in their native language. The village was incorporated in 1967 and is now home to over 1,000 inhabitants. It is both a residential and vacation community where life is good. You will find most of the amenities available in larger centers, such as camping, parks and playgrounds, walking trails, fish market, motel, crafts and restaurants. The Nigadoo river is a picturesque site and accessible for swimming and fishing. Along the riverbank, you will find the ruins of a mill dating back to the 19th century, known to the locals as the “Parc du Vieux Moulin”. The village also boasts a scenic look-out perfect for picnics and admiring the sea. At low tide, this panoramic view includes the Nigadoo peninsula. This scenic look-out also provides easy access to our beautiful beach.
