Irving Nature Park

Just minutes from the city of Saint John is an oasis of forest and marsh, beaches and trails. This attraction contains no less than six different ecosystems within the 243-ha (600- acre) site with a diversity of flora and fauna. There are 11 km (7 mi.) of rugged Bay of Fundy coastline. The park was created to protect this fragile area, yet allow the public to come and learn about it. Park staff members offer free guided tours. The geological history of this area is fascinating.

Island Lake Club

Five fully equipped rental cottages. Enjoy fishing and hunting as well as a 3-km (1.9 mi.) trail around a lake. Member cards available 19 years old and up.

James C. Yerxa Nature Preserve

The James C. Yerxa Nature Preserve sits on the Keswick River, a short distance from its confluence with the Saint John River, just north of Fredericton. Visit the preserve to see a protected silver maple floodplain forest, as well as a waterfowl staging area for bird migration. Two rare birds, the cinnamon teal and the glossy ibis, and one rare plant, Rugel's plantain, have also been spotted on this preserve. It is one of the Nature Trust of New Brunswick's smallest preserves, with two small pieces of land totaling 3 ha (7 acres), but it remains ecologically significant.

Jerome Point (Front Range)

Established in 1883 and altered in 1987. Active, original wooden, salt-shaker tower. The lighthouse is 4 m (13.1 ft.) high and is hard to spot, but can be seen from the road. It's an unusual pyramid shape with large, glazed windows and thick, vertical, red day markings. Driving directions: Route 475, north of Bouctouche, at Jerome Point.

Joseph B. Michaud Blacksmith Museum

This historic museum displays antique tools and equipment used in the blacksmithing profession. It is located in a former blacksmith shop once owned by Joseph B. Michaud, who plied his trade for 62 years. Free entrance, but donations are welcome. The museum highlights the trade of blacksmith; its impressive collection of artefacts show the changes brought by the transition from horse power to engines.

Keillor Hearth Cooking

Experience the magic of the hearth. Prepare a stew in a cauldron over the open flame, cook biscuits in the wall oven and bake a pie in a Dutch oven over embers on the open hearth. All the way from starting the fire to eating the meal: experience the whole process. This slow food adventure is suitable for ages 8 and up and is designed for groups of 2 to 8 people. Keillor House Museum

PROVINCIAL HERITAGE PLACE The Keillor story is not one that you hear often: where, through hard work and diligence, a yeoman farmer from Yorkshire, England, raised his social status to become a respected Gentleman. The story is woven throughout the Keillor House and touches on place and politics of a young New Brunswick leading through the entire Victorian era and a cavalcade of unique and interesting characters. Your journey also includes the Coach House and the Dorchester Penitentiary exhibit.

Kellys Beach

Go for a dip in some of Canada's warmest saltwater beaches! With 25 km (15.5 mi.) of golden sand dunes and a ½ km (.3 mi.) long boardwalk, this supervised beach is the perfect spot to relax, swim and build a sandcastle. Kellys Beach offers access to all the amenities: change rooms, washrooms, showers and a food concession. It's a great spot for families, with plenty of picnic areas and bike trails.

Kennebecasis Island Ferry

Toll-free service operated from May to November by the provincial government between Kennebecasis Island and Summerville, off Route 845 on the Kingston Peninsula. Be prepared to take in the view of the McColgan Point Lighthouse (built in 1913). For 24-hour information about ferry service interruption notices, call 511 (in New Brunswick) or 1-800-561-4063 (out of province).

Kennebecasis River No. 7.5 Covered Bridge (Salmon)

Built in 1908, this covered bridge is 34 m (112 ft.) in length. Not in service. Driving directions: Route 1, Exit 195, onto Route 890 North.

Kennebecasis River No. 23 Covered Bridge (Malone)

Built in 1911, this covered bridge is 18 m (58 ft.) in length. Driving directions: Route 1, Exit 211, Route 114 South 5.8 km(3.6 mi.), Goshen Road 7.2 km (4.4 mi.)
