Reversing Falls Rapids

A unique phenomenon created by the collision of the Bay of Fundy and the Saint John River. At low tide the river empties into the bay causing a series of rapids and whirlpools. As tides rise they slow the river current for a brief period called slack tide. The Bay's tides continue to rise, gradually reversing the flow of the river; rapids form again, peaking at high tide. A 8.5-metre (28-foot) tide cycle is roughly 12.5 hours.

Waterside Beach

An outstanding saltwater beach for beachcombing, listening to the surf as the waves break on the shore, and wildlife viewing. Parking is limited alongside Route 915. Please park as close to the shoulder as possible.

Maliseet Trail

The Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) Trail is part of the Sentier NB Trail network, as well as part of the historic portage and canoe transportation route linking the Saint John River system with the St. Croix River, used by the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) First Nations people for millennia. The trail joined the Saint John River with the Penobscot River in Maine and was used up until the 1600s. The trail connected through many lakes, rivers and streams and was comprised of over 200 km (125 mi.) of paddling and 20 km (12 mi.) of portaging.

Admire the tallest lighthouse on the St. John River system and see oak trees over 100 years old. A multitude of birds can be viewed in the marsh in their natural habitat. Great view of Confederation Bridge on our oceanfront. Walking, biking, hiking on trails. Store on site. Ice cream stand inside store. July 1st activities and fireworks. Come swim in our warm waters. Approximately 1,000 metres (3,280 feet) of sandy beachfront. Boat slips at nearby wharf.

St. Martins

Once a shipbuilding centre, this gateway to the Fundy Trail Provincial Park is famous for its red cliffs, echo caves and birdwatching activities. This is a lovely seaside community whose daily rhythms are guided by the rising and falling of the World's Highest Tides. At high water, the colourful fishing boats bob in the water in the village harbour. Once the tide recedes, those same boats sit in the mud on the ocean floor! The harbour is tremendously photogenic. It's encircled by two covered bridges, a lighthouse and public gardens.
