Odell Park & Odell Arboretum

Odell Park is a 135-ha (333-acre) park located in the heart of Fredericton. It's a sample of the once widespread northern hardwood forest that stretched unbroken from the Saint John River Valley to New England. It is home to 420 hemlock trees that are more than 400 years old and a number of endangered and rare species. Take a picnic and explore the trails and arboretum. In the winter, visitors enjoy the outdoor rink, sliding hill and cross-country ski trails.

St. James Textile Museum

PROVINCIAL HERITAGE PLACE This former church built in 1884, features an insightful look into the making of textiles in the late 1800s and is home to turn-of-the-century blacksmith and carpentry tools, unique hand tools and a selection of items once used for daily domestic chores. The textile exhibits cover the complete processes of making linen from flax and blankets from wool. You can even try carding, spinning, and weaving on the antique looms while you are here.

Established in 2005, the Richibucto River Wine Estate has 8 ha (20 acres) of vineyards growing along the banks of the beautiful Richibucto River. Everything is done on property, from the grape-growing to the wine-making, with all wines made from estate-grown grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand, processed, and stored in tanks until the wine is ready to be bottled. Take a tour of the vineyards, enjoy a tasting on the patio, and browse the boutique.

Owens Art Gallery

The Owens Art Gallery, established in 1895 on the campus of Mount Allison University, is Canada's oldest university art gallery. Changing exhibitions highlight contemporary and historical art by regional, national and international artists. Also featured is a permanent exhibition devoted to the work of Alex Colville. The Owens presents a variety of artists' talks, workshops and special events throughout the year and regular programs for children and families. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Cyr Historical House

The Cyr house, the oldest house in Madawaska County, was built by Alexis Cyr between 1825 and 1830 in Saint-Basile. It is a true example of the building methods used by the first Acadian settlers. Passed on from generation to generation until 1983, the house was purchased by the Madawaska Historical Society and moved to its current location. The Alexis-Cyr House is an important testament to life in the olden days of the colony.

Doak House

The Doak Provincial Heritage Site commemorates Scottish entrepreneur Robert Doak and his family, who moved to the Upper Miramichi River area in the early 1820s. He established a carding mill, grist mill, sawmill and was involved in the affairs of his adopted community, which in 1854 was renamed "Doaktown" in his honour. Visit Doak House and note the architectural importance of its buildings and the richness of its original furniture preserved by several generations of the Doak Family.
