St. Croix River

St. Croix
The St. Croix River is 185 km (115 mi.) of water that runs from Monument Brook and North Lake to St. Andrews and to the Passamaquoddy Bay, to the Bay of Fundy. This Canadian Heritage River marks the international boundary between New Brunswick and the State of Maine in the USA. The Peskotomuhkati Nation and other First Peoples have lived along the river for more than 4000 years.

The Hole in the Wall rock arch is a landmark attraction carved by the magnificent Bay of Fundy. Visit this privately owned hiking park to see the arch, along with hiking trails and viewing decks that overlook herring weirs and offer unmatched views. Keep a lookout, because there’s always the possibility of a whale sighting! A special treat for children is the Discovery Trail, a 10-minute walk to the rock arch where keen eyes can spot objects waiting to be discovered. Some points on the hiking trail have vehicle access. Maps and passes can be obtained at the reception area.

Carleton Martello Tower National Historic Site

NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE **The martello tower is currently undergoing vital restoration work. Although visitors are not able to enter the tower during this time, we encourage them to explore and enjoy the grounds and the Visitor Centre.** Built for the War of 1812, this circular stone fort played a crucial role in the defence of Saint John and its harbour until 1944. The tower's unique architecture spans 130 years of coastal defence technology.
