Pointe-Sapin Lighthouse (Rear Range)

This 1903 salt-shaker style lighthouse has a yellow navigation light. It is located on the Acadian Coastal Drive, 8 km (5 mi.) north of Kouchibouguac National Park of Canada, located on a very small parcel of land adjacent to residential properties. For your enjoyment, there is a beach across the road. There is limited parking. This lighthouse is operational and an active aid to navigation. It has a square white pyramidal shaped wooden tower with a red-square lantern and a red-vertical stripe on the corner facing the alignment.

Among the exhibits featured are the boots and goggles worn by the legendary jockey Ron Turcotte when he rode the powerful horse, Secretariat, and won the Triple Crown in 1973. The International Appalachian Trail, a route cherished by backpacking enthusiasts, also crosses into Aroostook territory. The trail links the 3 highest peaks of the Appalachian Mountain chain: Mont Jacques-Cartier in Quebec, Mount Carleton in New Brunswick and Mount Katahdin in the state of Maine.

Just minutes from the city of Saint John is an oasis of forest and marsh, beaches and trails. This attraction contains no less than six different ecosystems within the 243-ha (600- acre) site with a diversity of flora and fauna. There are 11 km (7 mi.) of rugged Bay of Fundy coastline. The park was created to protect this fragile area, yet allow the public to come and learn about it. Park staff members offer free guided tours. The geological history of this area is fascinating.

The Playhouse

This attractive 1864 lighthouse has an original wooden salt-shaker tower with alterations done in 1988. This active lighthouse is located on an elevated bluff overlooking the Northumberland Strait. There is a working wharf within view of the lighthouse, it's adjacent to cottages and a campground and Cap-Lumière Beach is nearby. This is a good seaside picnic location. Driving directions: Routes 11 and 134, then Route 505 to Cap-Lumière Road.

It is situated on a sandbar overlooking the Kennebecasis River at the entrance to the Gondola Point Cable Ferry service in Quispamsis. A large parking area is located off Gondola Point Road. The International Appalachian Trail is a 3,058 km (1,900 mi.) trail running from Maine to Newfoundland. The New Brunswick portion of the trail enters New Brunswick at the border of Fort Fairfield, Maine and Perth-Andover. It tracks northeast through Mount Carleton Provincial Park and up and over the highest point in the Maritimes. The trail then leads north to Tide Head and crosses into Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula at Matapédia.
