Dobson Trail (Riverview to Alma)

The Dobson Trail is a footpath that starts on Pine Glen Road in the town of Riverview and continues through the Albert County Caledonia Highlands to the eastern boundary of Fundy National Park. The first 2 km (1.25 mi.) of the trail bed are maintained to Park standards and are wheelchair accessible. The initial section also has a guide wire for the visually challenged. The remaining section is maintained to Appalachian Trail Standards. The trail can be hiked in 3 days and is used in all seasons by hikers, snowshoers and backcountry skiers.

This attraction contains no less than six different ecosystems within the 243-ha (600- acre) site with a diversity of flora and fauna. There are 11 km (7 mi.) of rugged Bay of Fundy coastline. The park was created to protect this fragile area, yet allow the public to come and learn about it. Park staff members offer free guided tours. The geological history of this area is fascinating.

Feel free to cross to the Pea Point Lighthouse (first lit in 1878) on Pea Island during low tide, but keep your eye on the tides to avoid getting stuck!

Caused by the Bay of Fundy tides, the Tidal Bore occurs twice daily. Watch the water in the Petitcodiac River roll back upstream in one wave that can go up to 60 cm in height! Estimated Tidal Bore times online and at the Visitor Information Centre beside Bore Park, downtown Moncton. Please note: Many factors may affect the time of the Bore by 15 to 20 minutes before or after the scheduled arrival time. Arrive early!
