World's Largest Axe

Take seven tonnes of stainless steel and sink them into a concrete stump that is 10 m (33 ft.) in diameter. What have you got? The World's Largest Axe! Rising 15 m (49 ft.) above the glorious Saint John River, this landmark is a mighty symbol. It tells the world that forestry is "number one" in this small community, named Forestry Capital of Canada in 1991. In fact, the axe was commissioned as a reminder of that special year. It was designed and built by a company from Woodstock, New Brunswick. Once built, it was quite a feat to move the statue down to Nackawic.

Just 2 minutes from downtown Edmundston, the Madawaska Trails network is real mountain terrain (Total descent: 1589 m.). 60 kilometres of singletrack trails (7 beginner, 9 intermediate and 4 expert) built according to IMBA specifications by the Velo Edmundston passionate volunteers thanks to generous landowners. There is an XCM endurance race (Le Petit Sault 15/30/60) and an Olympic XCO race every summer. Only Mountain Bike Trails designated "Signature Trails" in New Brunswick !

Holdings include textual and digital records, papers of families and individuals, maps, architectural plans, photos, sound recordings, film and video. Located on the University of New Brunswick campus, the Archives is housed in the Bonar Law-Bennett Building, of architectural interest for its Beaux Arts style and extensive use of bird's-eye maple.

St. Michael's Museum and Genealogical Centre

From here the administration of the entire Roman Catholic diocese in northern New Brunswick took place. First Episcopal residence in 1860 and first Hôtel-Dieu hospital in 1869. Today it is a genealogical research centre and Catholic religious supply shop.
