The Calithumpians, a professional theatre troupe of performers, musicians and interpreters, have been entertaining Fredericton audiences for over 30 years, bringing dynamic family-oriented educational activities to downtown Fredericton. Their offerings include free outdoor theatre on the Cathedral Green (150 Church Street), Haunted Hikes, youth drama camps, and guided heritage walking tours. The outdoor theatre and some tours are free, while the Haunted Hikes and other offerings charge a fee.

Museum of the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph

A permanent exhibition attests to the presence of the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph and their works in Saint-Basile from 1873. Artifacts were, at one time or another, used by the sisters' community at the hospital and in the classrooms. The museum is located in the Heritage room, under the chapel of the Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Joseph, which is a Provincial Historic Site now a seniors' residence and nursing home.

The Saint John River has been the lifeline of this town since it was established in the early 1800s. Once an important trade route for French, English and Aboriginal traders, the river today is known for leisure pursuits including fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and pleasure boating. The Upper St. John River Valley Trail (part of the Trans-Canada Trail) runs through town and is used by cyclists, hikers, ATVs and snowmobiles.

It mainly serves as a field site for the students and researchers from the faculty of forestry at the Edmundston campus of the Université de Moncton, but it is also open to the public.

PROVINCIAL HERITAGE PLACE Built in 1841 on a rocky outcrop where the Madawaska and the St. John River meet, this small fort overlooking the City of Edmundston was part of the British defensive line during the boundary dispute between England and the United States. That conflict, known as the “Aroostook Bloodless War,” ended in 1842 when the Ashburton-Webster Treaty was signed. Destroyed by lightning in 1855, the blockhouse was rebuilt in 2000 in accordance with original specifications.
